Fighting to breathe
Hyde Road is already one of the most polluted roads in Manchester, yet the Council is trying to create even more traffic along Hyde Road with the widening scheme.
Local Campaigner Jackie Pearcey explained "last year, I monitored the pollution levels outside my home, about 100 yards from Hyde Road. Most days, the pollution levels were far higher than safe levels. Nearer to Hyde Road, the air is even worse. We need green barriers to make the air that we are breathing safe."
Hyde Road's pollution levels are dangerous, yet the Council agreed to building houses right up against the road, endangering the residents' health.
