Over 20 years ago the Labour council wanted to build houses on Godfrey Ermen playing fields.

Jackie Pearcey and the Liberal Democrats fought to protect Godfrey Ermen from development by Labour.

Jackie Pearcey and the local Liberal Democrats stopped them. Recently Labour have again threatened to build on this open space. The protection which Liberal Democrats secured at a public inquiry into the Council's development strategy helped stop that development, and now Jackie Pearcey and the local Liberal Democrats support resident's calls for Godfrey Ermen to be declared a Village Green.

In 1988 Tameside's Labour bosses together with United Utilities proposed to turn Denton and Fairfield Golf Courses and the Gorton Reservoirs into a business park. Jackie Pearcey was one of the leading campaigners who fought against those proposals for over 10 years to protect our open spaces, and won. There is plenty of brownfield land in Manchester that could be used for developing the housing we need, without destroying our open spaces and green lungs.
