“Serving the people of Manchester is a commitment, honour and privilege that I take seriously. I am delighted to be re-elected, and I continue to be humbled by the trust and confidence placed in me.

"I want to thank everyone who supported our campaign this year – it has been a mammoth team effort."
Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey MP, personally commended John Leech:
"I have known John for many years, and I am always struck by his ability to translate the concerns of everyday people into concrete action that makes their lives better. But what is unique is that John does this for one reason and one reason only: It’s just who he is.
"He is a true liberal with a passion for public service and a passion for his community, putting them over and above himself every time. And today, they have thanked him for that dedication.
“Congratulations, John, on celebrating an unparalleled 25 years in public service. Your extraordinary dedication to Manchester and its residents is exactly what the Liberal Democrats stand for and I am delighted you have been resoundingly re-elected today."
