Manchester is losing out thanks to Labour's poor management of our transport systems and the failure of successive Conservative and Labour Governments to invest in Northern Transport systems.
Hybrid busses should now be running on all our bus routes, we should have an integrated bus tram and rail ticketing system and our public transport network should be properly integrated.
If the North had had our fair share of funding for the last 5 years we would be half way to the total electrification of our rail network.
Jackie Pearcey stated "Manchester deserves a first class transport network, not the second rate system being delivered by Labour."
"Labour will of course blame Government cuts for the problems in our transport network, and in part they are right, the North gets much less investment per capita in transport than London, but surely the routes we do have could be better managed and planned."
Liberal Democrats are committed to providing smart and strategic investment in our transport system. Using funds that are available to the Council we will build a transport network that meets the city's needs.
Jackie added "Some of the £50 million Manchester Airport dividends could be used to establish a SmartTransport Development Fund dedicated to offsetting heavy carbon transport."
We will invest in dedicated cycle highways giving riders somewhere safe to use, making routes clearer and more direct across the city - not just in and out of the centre.
We believe the Airport Dividend should be used to make Manchester the greenest city in the UK, putting the return on the investment back into fighting air pollution in our city.
