The Liberal Democrats are Britain's third largest party, with as many members as the Conservatives and fielding or supporting candiates in every seat (except that of the Speaker) in the General Election on 12th December.

As the biggest Remain Party in the UK the Liberal Democrats are leading the campaign to make this the election that delivers an Exit from Brexit.

In the General Election on 12th December the Liberal Democrats are fielding candidates in 611 of the 650 UK parliamentary seats. We do not field candidates in Northern Ireland (18) or in the seat of the Speaker of the House (1), leaving 631 seats where we would normally field candidates. In seventeen of these seats we have stepped aside for the Green Party or Plaid Cymru. We have also stepped aside in the seats of three independent Remainers.

The Labour Party were invited to join the Remain Alliance, but declined as their policy remains to negotiate a Brexit deal.

The Labour Candidate in Blackley and Broughton has voted to leave the EU at every oppotunity, and campaigned for Brexit in the Referendum. He was one of the handful of Labour MP's who voted for Theresa May's deal and therefore voting Labour in Blackley and Broughton will not stop Boris Johnson's Brexit.

Liberal Democrat Candidate, Iain Donaldson, stated that "The Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Green Party have formed an electoral pact, agreeing not to stand against each other in dozens of seats. From the outset the Labour Party refused to joing that alliance, they are not a Remain Party and neither their leader nor the former MP for Blackley and Broughton are Remainers."

In Blackley and Broughton the Unite Union funds Labour campaigning, and the leader of the Unite Union, Len McCluskey has stated absolutely clearly that Labour are not a Remain Party.

Iain added, "The Labour Party is split on Brexit, as are the Trades Union movement. I am a member of Unison which represents public sector workers. We are campaigning to Remain in the EU because we know the damage that Brexit will do to our public services, and especially to the NHS."
